- Full-grain Italian leather, Terracare certified. The dense outer layer of the hide is left intact, which is the layer that resists abrasion and lets the leather age instead of crack.
- Sympatex® membrane. Waterproof and breathable, so rain stays out and sweat vapour gets out. PTFE-free and fully recyclable, which most riding membranes are not.
- Vibram® outsole. Grips wet pegs and wet road, wears slowly, and can be replaced when it finally goes.
- Goodyear welted construction. Upper, welt and sole are stitched rather than glued, so a cobbler can resole the boot instead of you replacing it.
- Removable leather and latex insole. Take it out to dry the boot properly, or swap in your own orthotic.
- CE certified to EN 13634:2017, category CE-CAT2. The European standard for motorcycle footwear, covering abrasion resistance, impact cut resistance and transverse rigidity.
- Independently tested by PFI. Certification comes from an outside test institute rather than from our own claims.
- Sizes 40 to 48, men's last, whole sizes. Cut true to size with a normal riding sock, and scaled properly across the range rather than stretched from a smaller pattern.

Who is the black and grey boot for?
The rider who wants one pair of boots for the whole year. Black hides road salt and brake dust, grey stitching reads as detail rather than decoration, and the extended shaft handles the cold and wet that a low shoe lets in. It is the least specialised boot in the range, which is why it sells most.
Of the four ready-made combinations, this is the one that makes no demands on you. It does not need a matching bike, it does not show the winter, and it does not look out of place when you walk into a hotel.
If you want the boot to say something, the brandy and the orange versions are there. If you want it to just work for the next ten years, this is it. If you mostly ride short and urban, the low version in men's motorcycle shoes may suit you better.
Lacing a tall shaft, and getting the boots on and off
Nobody mentions this in product photography, and it is the thing you deal with twice a day. A tall boot takes longer to put on than a shoe, and how you lace it decides whether that is five seconds or a minute.
The trick is to treat the boot as two zones. Lace the foot properly, snug enough that your heel stays down, and then lace the shaft only firmly enough to close it. Most riders over-tighten the shaft and under-tighten the foot, which gives you a calf that aches and a heel that still lifts. Once the foot section is set to your liking, you rarely need to undo it: loosen the shaft, slide the boot off, and the foot lacing is still right next time.
The boots take a longer lace than the low Adventure, and eight lace colours are available. A spare set is worth having, because a lace that snaps on a trip with a tall boot is more of a problem than it sounds; spares are in motorcycle boot laces.
How should you size for winter socks?
Size for your coldest ride, not your warmest. If you wear a thick thermal sock in January, take the larger size rather than your usual one. A shaft that closes neatly over a summer sock and grips over a winter one will annoy you every time you put the boots on, and there is no way to fix it later.
This is the single most common sizing mistake with tall boots. A pair that fits perfectly in a shop in July becomes the pair you avoid wearing in December.
Leather widens a little across the ball of the foot as it beds in, but shaft circumference barely changes, and length never does. The practical test is to do your fitting indoors with the thickest socks you actually ride in. If the shaft closes with a little room left and your heel still stays down as you walk, the size is right. Ours are whole sizes only, so go up rather than down when you are between two.
